About Dan Young.

Building companies since 1992. Founder of PC Laptops and Xidax. I run AI in my own companies every day, and I post what works, for free.

Who I am

I opened PC Laptops in 1992 and never stopped building. Today that's five PC Laptops stores in Utah, plus Xidax, which designs and assembles custom PCs in Utah and ships them all over the world.

I've served 16 years on Intel's Board of Advisors and I'm on AMD's Gaming Advisory Council. PC Laptops has been an Intel Partner and a Microsoft Partner. Back in 2014 I built one of the largest crypto mining facilities in South Jordan, way before anybody cared about crypto.

Why I do this

Mentors gave me a lot for free. This is how I pay it back. All I ask:

  • Actually do something with what you learn.
  • Share it with someone who needs it.

How it started

My parents left China to get away from communism and started over in L.A. with nothing.

I grew up there. A lot of my friends went the wrong way, and I was headed there too. More than once I watched my mom cry over an empty fridge. I promised myself my family would never go through that again.

At 16 I got sent to Utah to live with my sister. That lasted about 30 days. I got a job at a Radio Shack in the mall and sold Ginsu knives at swap meets on weekends.

One day an older guy brought in a broken radio. I swapped a fuse and it worked. Turns out he'd sold his company for over a billion dollars. He offered me lunch every week if I'd keep his computers running. Best deal I ever made.

Later I was a top computer salesman at an electronics store. Then the boss told us they were closing. I'd made promises to my customers, so I got the list, called every one of them and gave them my pager number. That was the start of PC Laptops.

What I help you do

Everything I teach comes back to four things. It's what I've used to build my own companies for more than 30 years.

  • Make more moneySales and marketing that bring in more customers and more revenue from the ones you already have.
  • Cut operating costsFind where money leaks out of the business and plug it. Less waste, better deals, fewer wasted hours.
  • Run more efficientlyClear priorities, simple systems and AI that handles the busywork, so your team gets more done with the same people.
  • Get your time backBuild a business that doesn't need you in every meeting, so you have time for the people and things that matter.
